Arbor Day- April 28, 2006
Arbor Day is known all around the country as a day to celebrate the existence of trees. On this day, trees are planted in every state to help improve our growing agricultural environment and economy. In Wisconsin, Arbor Day is celebrated on the last friday in April. All kinds of trees are planted all over the state, including our state tree which is the Sugar Maple. The annual tradition began on April 10, 1872 when a man by the name of Julius Sterling Morton thought up an idea to improve his state's agricultural well being. Julius started by planting varieties of trees on his own land hoping that his fellow neighbors would be encouraged enough to do the same. One thing led to another and now he has every state following in his footsteps. One man's creative idea is now a country's agricultural calling.
